5 must-have travel apps

In this post I put together 5 apps, that have proven to be especially useful on my last journeys. They provide great support for daily life in foreign places and have an easy and intuitive interface – just how I like it ๐Ÿ™‚ Check them out and download them straight from your iOS App or Google Play Store.

1. Maps.me

With Maps.me you will never get lost anymore โ€“ no matter where you are. Maps are free of charge in an offline version and available for every country, city and even the smallest islands worldwide. The greatest benefit is the automatic location of your current position โ€“ you will always know where exactly you are. Only thing to keep in mind: download the map of your chosen location in advance of your journey with an online connection.

2. XE currency

The XE currency app helps you watching your budget in foreign currencies by easy, quick and offline currency calculations. It provides access to live exchange rates for currencies all over the world. The interface is user-friendly and available in an offline mode for quick currency calculations on the go.

3. GPSmyCity

WIN GPSmyCityGPSmyCity is the perfect app for travelers, who prefer exploring new places on foot. GPSmyCity provides self-guided city walkes for 470+ cities worldwide at the price of only โ‚ฌ 4.99. The app suggests a variety of walks for every taste with short or long distances and cultural or adventure sights. Besides you get some useful information on every sight that you pass as well as an offline map that enables you to always wander around and discover new parts of the city by yourself. I tried GPSmyCity myself in London โ€“ in my eyes it is a more fun, authentic and cheaper option than any hop-on hop-off bus. It gives you full flexibility and you can spend your city trip according to your individual pace and taste.

WIN a GPSmyCity app code worth โ‚ฌ 4,99: Simply comment the city for which you would like to receive a code in the comments section of this post. Out of all comments, 5 will be randomly chosen and notified before 31.8.2016.

4. Uber

I have been using Uber in Vienna for over a year now and I am great supporter of the App and the idea itself, even though it is discussed quite controversially. However, on my last couple of journeys I was happy to see in how many cities the concept has established itself. Uber has therefore proven to be a great alternative to expensive taxi drives or less advanced public transport systems in foreign cities. Find out the cities, where Uber is available here.

5. Backpackr

Backpackr is a social app for backpackers, who want to connect with travel buddies along their journeys. You create your own profile and decide yourself how much information you want to share. You can either publish your travel iternary and post your destinations or just watch out for fellow travelers in your area and connect individually with backpackers. It is a nice and easy way to meet new people and like-minded travelers especially when you are travelling by yourself and miss some company.

I hope you will find these apps just as usefuls as I do.

Please remember to take part in the contest to win a GPSmyCity app code for your next trip. Just put the name of the city, for which you would like to receive the code, in this posts comments section.
